Where are you located?

Turkey River AXEperience is located right below the Elkader Fitness Center (305 High ST NE). To access our facility, please access the road located on the north side of the Fitness center (look for the bright arrow). There will be ample parking available around our facility. We are a short walking distance to downtown Elkader!

Is there an age limit?

Yes. You must be over the age of 12 to be onsite. The minimum throwing age is 12, as long as they have the physical ability to throw an axe. Throwers ages 15 and under must have an adult with them. Ages 16 -17 do not not need to be accompanied by an adult but their guardian must sign their waiver.

Will there be training?

Definitely! Our certified coaches will demonstrate proper safety and axe throwing techniques. Coaches are present throughout the experience for questions and to help you master your bullseye and learn how to throw an axe. Become an AXEpert and join our team by filling out this Employment form!

What happens if I arrive late?

If you are late, we will always try our best to keep you to your booked time, but if this interferes with anyone else’s experience, the Turkey River AXEperience staff reserve the right to re-book your session to another time. We cannot extend your lane time, as it would interfere with other scheduled bookings. The best way to avoid this is to show up 15 minutes early so you can sign in, and you’ll be ready to go!

Do I have to wear special clothing?

All spectators and axe throwers MUST wear closed toe shoes! Dress comfortably and in clothing that will allow easy movement of arms. Also, we love flannel in the warmer months!

Is axe throwing dangerous?

Safety is our number one concern! Our Turkey River AXEperience coaches will start your time by briefly walking you through the entire process of throwing axes and ensure you have a safe and enjoyable experience. Each lane is specifically built to meet all WATL safety standards.

Can I bring my own alcohol or does Turkey River AXEperience sell alcohol?

We are BYOB (beer and wine only); bring your own cups/bottle opener. No hard alcohol allowed. Please keep in mind; we are an axe throwing venue. Axe’s are sharp, so, naturally, alcohol consumption will be closely monitored. Safety is important, fun is important and…we are not a bar. Bring your ID— if we need to question you, we will.

Can I bring in my own food?
Absolutely! Turkey River Axe does not provide utensils or paper goods (plates/napkins). We also do not sell any food or snacks at our location. We strongly recommend bringing in food from one of our local establishments in our community. All that we ask is that you clean up after yourselves! Visit the Elkader Area Chamber of Commerce website or Main Street Elkader’s website for a list of area businesses, events and attractions.

Do I have to participate or can I watch?

All visitors to Turkey River AXEperience must complete a waiver, even if they are not throwing. You are welcome to watch other members of your party throw if there is enough space. The lane maximum of 6 people is still in place due to the space in the lane area. All participants and observers must be at least 12 years old.

Do I have to make a reservation?

Yes! You have to make your reservation online in advance on our website. Our reservation system will show you when there is availability. All walk-ins will have to book through our website at the front desk. All participants will complete their waiver prior to arrival. If you did not complete the waiver online when reserving your lane, you can download and bring with you to help speed up the check-in process.

Do I bring my own AXE?

No! Turkey River AXEperience will provide you with all the equipment you need.

How much will it cost?

$20 per hour per person or $27.50 per person for a 90 minute session. Please make your reservation on our website through the online booking. 

Do AXEperts accept tips?

Tipping is never expected but always appreciated. Our axeperts will do their best to make your experience fun and exciting. It’s nice to show them some love! Become an axepert today — fill out an Employment form and we’ll be in touch if your application is considered.

What should I bring?

All adult guests are required to bring a valid, government-issued ID. You MUST wear closed-toe shoes (and no high heels). You will not be permitted to play if you do not wear closed-toe shoes. Please also bring: DETERMINATION, ENTHUSIASM, AND A COMPETITIVE SPIRIT!!!

Is there league play available?

Currently, we do not offer league play. However, we are looking to add this in January - March 2025 if there is enough interest. Email us if you would like to learn more!

What is the cancellation policy?

We understand things come up, and will gladly refund you if you cancel a minimum of  24 hours in advance of your scheduled booking. Refer to our booking scheduler to cancel your reservation.

Can I rent the place?
Absolutely! Please send us an email at turkeyriveraxe@gmail.com and one of AXEperts will get back to you in 24 hours!

What are your hours?

Friday 5-10 PM

Saturday 5-10 PM

Any changes to this will be posted on our Facebook/Instagram page or our website. We are available for private parties and events outside of regular hours, just contact us for more information.
